General Elections were held in the British Virgin Islands on 30 September 1954 for all five seats in the Legislative Council.
Electoral System
The British Virgin Islands elects on territorial level to a unicameral legislature. In the Legislative Council, there are six representatives elected for a three year term - one elected for each of four districts, and two members in the second district. The Council also includes a President, two Official Members (Appointed by the Governor), and two Nominated Members (Appointed by the Governor).
Background
The 1954 election was the first election to employ districting. The Territory was divided into five districts, the largest of which (the 2nd District - Road Town) would have two members.
