General Election Results - 21 March 1989

Federal elections were held on 21 March 1989. There were a total of 31,844 registered electors.

A total of 25 candidates were nominated to contest the General Elections in the 11 constituencies: In St. Kitts: People's Action Movement (PAM) - 8; St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) - 8; PIP - 1; WKMB - 2. In Nevis: Concerned Citizens' Movement (CCM) - 3; Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) – 3. The Concerned Citizen's Movement (CCM) contested elections in 1989 for the first time.

The 1989 general elections were marked by the emergence of the Concerned Citizen's Movement (CCM), which won one of the three Nevis seats and thus joined the three existing political groups – the ruling People's Action Movement (PAM), the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) and the socialist Labour Party (Workers' League) – in National Assembly representation.

At the end of the count, the results were as follows: In St. Kitts: People's Action Movement (PAM) - 6; St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) - 2. In Nevis: Concerned Citizen's Movement (CCM) - 1; Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) – 2. The coalition (PAM/NRP) Government therefore continued for another term in office with a slightly reduced majority with Kennedy Simmonds as Prime Minister.

Voter turnout was 66.6%
