Senator and Parliamentary Secretary, Antigua and Barbuda
Londel Turham McAlister Benjamin is an Antiguan senator and Parliamentary Secretary.
Early life and education
Londel Turham McAlister Benjamin is the grandson of a political legacy. His grandfather, the late Leonard Benjamin, was Deputy Leader of the Legislative Council of the Leeward Islands Colony.
Career
The young Benjamin has carved his own path in the financial and banking sector and as a strong advocate of labor relations. He is a member of the Antigua Barbuda Institute of Chartered Accounts, a branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States. He has worked as an accountant since 1965, climbing the ranks of some of Antigua’s most prestigious accounting firms. In 1994, he opened his own firm, Accounting and Financial Services.
Aside from his professional success, Benjamin is also a highly regarded leader in his community. He has offered pro bono services to a number of community organizations. He serves as Treasurer for a wide variety of groups, including The Caribbean Council for the Blind, the Antigua-Barbuda Football Association, the St. John Cooperative Credit Union Limited, and the Kentish Pentecostal Church.
Benjamin also served as Director on the Petro Caribe (PDV) Board and performed specialized professional engagements at the Medical Benefits Scheme and Antigua and Barbuda Investment Bank (ABIB).
Following the ABLP return to office through the 12 June 2014 election, Benjamin was was appointed a senator and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Social Transformation and Human Resource Development.
He successfully contested the St. John's Rural West seat for the ABLP in 2018. He was elected Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Personal life
Benjamin is husband to Norma, with whom he has two children, Carl and Carla.
