Justice Ian Chang, CCH, SC

Justice Ian Chang was a jurist and a former acting Chief Justice of Guyana.

Early life

Ian Chang was born in 1950 in Guyana.

Career

Justice Chang served as acting Chief Justice for more than a decade from 2000 to 2015. He went off on annual leave in December 2015 ahead of his February 2016 retirement.

The Senior Counsel also served in the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions for over 20 years.  He was also a former Justice of Appeal and a State Counsel.

Honours and awards

He was conferred with the Cacique Crown of Honour (CCH) for his services to the judiciary.

Death

Justice Chang died of cancer on 16 November 2019 at the Balwant Singh Hospital surrounded by family members at his bedside.  He was 69.
