Former Parliamentary Secretary, St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Elvis Charles is a politician and Former Cabinet Minister in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Early life and education
Elvis Charles was born in Biabou and lives in Green Hill. A teacher by profession, Mr. Charles attended Biabou Methodist School. He attended Adelphi Secondary School and later transferred to St. Martins Secondary School in Kingstown. Then, he completed a Certificate in Education in the Social Studies at the Teachers' College, a B.Ed. in Education Administration from UWI Cave Hill and is currently pursuing a Masters in Education Administration.
Career
Charles has worked in a number of schools with students from across St. Vincent. He has served students at Lowmans Windward Anglican, North Union Secondary, Calliqua Anglican, Lodge Village Government and Bethel High School Campden Park.
In 2010, Charles was unsuccessful in his bid for the Central Kingstown seat on the Unity Labour Party (ULP) ticket, losing to Major St. Clair Leacock of the New Democratic Party (NDP). Following the election, he was appointed a Government Senator. He served as Parliamentary Secretary in the
Office of the Prime Minister ( 29/12/2010-9/1/2012); Parliamentary Secretary in the
Ministry of Housing, Informal Human Settlements, Physical Planning,
Lands and Surveys (28/2/2012-11/3/2013); and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry Tourism, Sports and Culture with special responsibility for Sports and Culture (16/5/2013-15/8/2013).
Personal life
Charles is married and the father of two.
