James Luc Charles
Former Member of the West Indies Federal Parliament

James Luc Charles was a St. Lucian politician and a former parliamentarian in the West Indies Federal Parliament.

Early life and education

James Luc Charles was born in Soufriere, St. Lucia in 1898. He was educated in the school in Soufriere.

Career

Charles was a member of the Legislative Council of St. Lucia from 1947 to 1954. He was also on the Labour Party Executive. He represented the Colony at the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

In 1948, he was sent as a one-man Commission to the British and Dutch Guianas to seek employment for St. Lucian workers, but the scheme proved abortive.

He served as a Member of the Senate of the West Indies Federation from 1958 to 1962. He served as Minister without Portfolio on the Federal Council of State.
