Eustace Cochrane
Former Cabinet Minister, Antigua and Barbuda
Eustace Cochrane was a former Antiguan parliamentarian and Cabinet Minister.
Early life and education
Eustace Cochrane was born in Antigua and Barbuda in (circa) 1936. He ereeived his early education at the Antigua Grammar School.
Career
Cochrane represented All Saints East & St. Luke for two terms (1984 - 1994) for the Antigua Labour Party (ALP), having previously served as a senator for 17 years (starting in 1976). He failed in his bid for a third term in 1994, losing of the United Progressive Party (UPP).
While in office, Cochrane served as Minister of Education; and Minister of Public Works and Communications in the administration of Vere Bird Sr.
He was a former Chaiman of the ALP and deputy leader for the Antigua Labour Party during his days of opposition during the 1971-1976 period. He was a former General Secretary of the Antigua Trades and Labour Union (ATLU).
Cochrane was also Area Manager for Antigua & Barbuda and the Leeward Islands at BWIA for 24 years, and served on the Antigua Airlines Association.
Death
Eustace Cochrane died on 2 August 2016 after suffering a massive stroke and before his vehicle slammed into a utility poll on the Queen Elizabeth Highway in Antigua.
He was 79 years old.
He was accorded an Official Funeral on Friday, 26 August 2016 at the St John’s Pentecostal Church on Lauchland Benjamin Drive, Antigua.
