Charles Herbert Basanta Fletcher was a Grenadian politician and former Cabinet Minister.
Charles Herbert Basanta Fletcher was born in Grenada in 1927.
Fletcher served as a Cabinet Minister in the Grenada United Labour Party (GULP) administration of Prime Minister Eric Gairy.
In 1978, Fletcher was declared the winner (without opposition) for the St. Andrew North West seat left vacant following the assassination of Innocent Belmar of the Grenada United Labour Party (GULP). He was a member of the Eric Gairy led government that was deposed from power in a 1979 coup d’état.
Fletcher failed to recapture the seat for the GULP in the 1984 and 1990 elections. Losing on both occasions to Alleyne Walker representing the New National Party (NNP) in 1984 and the National Party (NP) in 1990.
Fletcher was married to wife, Anastasia Fletcher and was the father of six – George Fletcher, Bellock Fletcher, Sonia Fletcher, Patrice John, Doreen Munroe, and Patsy Davis.
Fletcher died on 5 February 2019, aged 91. His funeral took place on 26 February 2019 at the Family Cemetery in Beauregard, St. Andrew, Grenada according to Spiritual Baptist Rites.
