Ian 'Cupid' Gill
Former Election Candidate, Barbados
Ian Gill is a Barbadian broadcaster, politician, and former election candidate.
Early life and education
Ian Gill was born on 21 August 1964 in Barbados. He was educated at St. Augustine Boys School, Combermere School, Barbados Community College, University of the West Indies (Cave Hill), and University of Bradford (UK).
Gill has worked in several capacities. He was a former Manager of McDonalds Restaurant, Dukes Plantation, and Lex Service Ltd. He was also a Plantation Supervisor with the Barbados Agricultural Marketing Corporation. Later he served as Personal Assistant to the Minister of Trade, Industry and Commerce, and as a Business Development Officer with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce & Business Development. He was also a Project Officer/Co-ordinator with Needhams Point Development Inc., Managing Director of Llignais Caribbean Inc., and a Management Consultant with Island Caribbean Services Ltd. Gill is also a well-know Freelance Broadcaster.
In 2008, Gill unsuccesfully contested the St. George South seat as a candidate for the Barbados Labour Party (BLP), losing to newcomer Esther Byer-Suckoo of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP).
Gill is a former Member of the Lion's Club of Bridgetown. He was also President of the Roachford Social and Cultural Club.
