Former Cabinet Minister, Antigua and Barbuda

Reuben Henry Harris was a former Antiguan parliamentarian.

Career

In 1971, Harris unsuccessfully contested the St. John's City South as a candidate for the Antigua People's Party (APP), losing to Sydney Christian of the Progressive Labour Movement (PLM). In 1975, following the meger of the APP with the Antigua Labour Party, Harris won the St. Phillip South for the Antigua Labour Party, narrowly defeating Edison Lewis of the PLM. Harris continued to represent the constituency until 1994.

In 1976, was appointed to the Vere Bird Cabinet as Minister of Finance, but in 1978 was switched to the Ministry of Education, where he severed as the substantive Minister until 1994.

Personal life

Harris was married to Dame Bridget Harris, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Antigua and Barbuda from 1994 - 2004.
