Ignatius Joachim Karl Hood
Former Cabinet Minister, Grenada; Current High Commissioner to the United Kingdom
Karl Hood is a Grenadian politician and former Cabinet Minister.
Early life and education
Karl Hood was born in Happy Hill, St. George’s, Grenada. He received his secondary education at Presentation Boys College and his tertiary education at the West Indies School of Theology, Nyack College, and Newport University. Pastor Hood is a trained Optician and a Minister of Religion. He holds a Master’s Degree in leadership and is preparing to receive his doctorate.
Hood served as Member of Parliament for St. George South-East from 8 July 2008 to 13 February 2013 for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He served as Minister of Labour, Social Security and Ecclesiastical Affairs (2008-2010) and as Minister of Foreign Affairs (2010-2012) in a government led by former Prime Minister Tillman Thomas. He resigned as Minister of Foreign Affairs on 18 May 2012 after he abstained from a no-confidence vote against the government two days earlier.
Following his resignation, Hood joined the New National Party (NNP). In 2013 he was appointed as Ambassador of Grenada to China (2013-2016). He currently serves as Grenada's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (2016 – present).
Karl Hood is married to Hermione and has two children, Karla and Hervin.
