Dean Jonas is an Antiguan parliamentarian and Cabinet Minister. Jonas is the current parliamentary representative for St. George for the Antiga and Barbuda Labour Party.
Early life and education
Dean Jonas was born on 23 May 1961. Jonas studied Telecoms Engineering at a university in England.
Career
Dean Jonas has been an influential member of the St. George community for many years. He is deeply committed to improving the quality of life for his fellow residents from the ground up. It his firm belief that the youth of Antigua are the future and that the government must invest in them in order to promote progress.
He has many ideas on how to improve St. George and Antigua as a whole, ranging from education to youth outreach. Mr. Jonas has been instrumental in the opening and equipping of volunteer learning resource center that offer tutoring in CXC Math, English and computer literacy for younger students, as well as adult instruction courses for the residents of St. George. He has also been involved in increasing the number of sports initiatives offered to the youth of the community, including organizing leagues and sponsoring teams for in football, cricket, basketball and netball.
Jonas succesfully contested the St. George constituency in the 12 June 2014 general election defeating incumbent Jacqui Quinn-Leandro (UPP). On 25 June 2014, Jonas was elected Deputy Sepaker of the House of Representives.
Jonas retained his seat in the 2018 election and was appointed Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Barbuda Affairs on 22 March 2018.
