Dr. Hon. Adis King
Cabinet Minister, Dominica
Adis King is a Dominican politician and current Cabinet Minister.
Early life and education
Dr. Adis King was born in St. Joseph and attended the St. Joseph Primary School. She later attended the Dominica Grammar School St Joseph campus (now the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School); and the Clifton Dupigny Community College. In 2000, she received a scholarship to study medicine in Cuba and graduated as a medical doctor from the University of Cuba in 2007. She returned to The University of Cuba in 2013-2015 to pursue postgraduate studies in Internal medicine
Career
From 1991 to 1994, King served as a teacher at St. Joseph Primary School before becoming a Laboratory Technician at the Princess Margaret Hospital (1994-2000). She later served as a medical doctor at Princess Margaret Hospital from 2007 to 2013 and a Consultant Specialist Internal Medicine from 2016 to 2019. She has also worked Ross University and All Saint University-Clinic faculty. From 2019, Dr. King has been in private practice.
King successfully contested the St. Joseph seat for the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in the 2019 General Election.
She was appointed Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, Youth at Risk, Gender Affairs, Seniors’ Security, and Dominicans With Disabilities in the Roosevelt Skerrit Administration on 17 December 2019.
Personal life
Dr. King is married and mother of two children.
