Franck Lavaud
Franck Lavaud (1903 - 1986) was a Haitian military general and politician who was an acting head of state during two terms: from 11 January 1946 until 16 August 1946 and from 10 May 1950 until 6 December 1950.
Early life and education
Franck Lavaud was born 16 February 1903 in Jérémie. Franck Lavaud was a Haitian politician who was an acting head of state (Chairman of the Military Executive Committee) during two terms: from 11 January 1946 until 16 August 1946 and from 10 May 1950 until 6 December 1950.
Lavaud, who belonged to the first crop of graduates of the Military Academy, was promoted to lieutenant in 1929. In 1944 he was President Elie Lescot of the Colonel (Colonel) and promoted to Chief of Staff of the Guard and by the commander in chief of the army of Haiti (Forces Armées d'Haïti) appointed.
As such he was the highest-ranking officer after the overthrow of President Lescot 11th January 1946 to the Executive Chairman of the Military Council and for President of Haiti. Next to him, still belonged to the Executive Council to the two Supreme Antoine Levelt, and Paul Eugene Magloire. This office he held until 16 August 1946 and subsequently handed over power to Dumarsais Estimé.
Career
After the fall of Estimé on 10 May 1950 he took over as commander in chief of the armed forces back the presidency of the ruling junta and was in turn President of Haiti. After the presidential elections of October 1950, he then formally handed over this office on 6 December 1950 to the election winner Paul Eugène Magloire. Fourteen days later he was on 20 December 1950 retired from military service.
Death
In May 1951 he was sent as a diplomat for a short time to France, where he later settled and died in 1986.
