Herman W. 'Bobby' Liburd was a former Speaker of the National Assembly of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Early life and education

Herman W. Liburd, also known as Bobby Liburd, was born in Nevis on 2 April 1941. He graduated from York University in Canada with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 1971, from the University of Toronto with a Master’s degree in Economics and Political Science in 1973, and from the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago with a Certificate of Legal Education in 1978.


Liburd served as Speaker of the Saint Kitts-Nevis Parliament from 1980 to 1985. Later, he served as a Senator of the Nevis Island Assembly (1992 - 2000). He also served as Leagl Advisor to the Nevis Island Administration from 1983 to 1992 and again from 2010-2013.

Herman was a Member in Good Standing of the Bar of the Federation of Saint Kitts-Nevis. He was also a Non-Practicing Member of the Bar of England and Wales. He worked in Charlestown, Nevis,  as Senior Partner at the law firm of Liburd & Dash, L.P. (2008-2018) and most recently as Partner at the law firm LiburdLaw, Attorneys at Law (2018-2019). Liburd had considerable experience in the areas of Corporate Law, Trusts Law, Private Clients, Matrimonial Law and Conveyancing and has co-authored and published several articles on these areas of law, and was a contributor to Asset Protection: Domestic and International Law and Tactics.

Liburd was a founding member of the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society, which held its inaugural meeting on 25 July 1980. He also served as President of the Nevis Cricket Association (1979-1981). He was also a Notary Public, a Justice of the Peace, and a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Personal life

Liburd was the father of daughter Krysta Liburd-Clarke, and son Stephen Straker.


Liburd died on Friday, 12 April 2019. He was 78. He was accorded an Official Funeral at the Gingerland Methodist Church in Nevis on Saturday, 4 May 2019.
