Calvin Wilfred Neilly, MBE

Calvin Wilfred Neilly was a Bahamian politician and former Senator.

Early life

Calvin Wilfred Neilly was originally from Lower Bogue, Eleuthera, the Bahamas.

Career

Calvin Neilly served as a Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Senator in the Senate of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.  He was also a Stalwart Councillor.

Honours and awards

In 2004, he was awarded the Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to the transport industry.

Personal life

Neilly was the father of seven children – Gloria Sears, Valerie Smith, Anthony Neilly, Carlton Neilly, Lynette Barry, Lionel and Calvin Jr. Neilly.

Death

Neilly died in May 2019 at the age of 90 years.  He was accorded a State-Recognized Funeral at Grant's Town Wesley Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Lester Ferguson, pastor, and other members of the clergy, on 31 May 2019. His body was interred at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
