A farmer by profession, Lamin Newton works in the family business, which occupies 35 acres at Duers Estate. He is passionate about food security and is keen to impart to the wider community the importance of agriculture to sovereignty.

Newton unsuccessfully contested the All Saints West seat for the United Progressive Party (UPP) in the 2018 General Election.
