Shawn K. Richards is a politician and Deputy Prime Minister in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Early life and edcuation

Shawn K. Richards was born on 8 December 1972 in St. Kitts and Nevis. After performing admirably at the Primary and Secondary Levels, he attended the Cleveland State University as well as the University of the Virgin Islands. It was at these prestigious institutions that he gained his BA in Business Administration with specialization in Management and his Masters of Accountancy and Financial Information Systems. In 2002 he successfully passed the Certified Public Accountant Exam and is currently a registered CPA.

Career

During his career thus far, Shawn has amassed a wealth of experience including Senior Auditor – TDC Internal Audit Office, Board Secretary – TDC Tours, Accountant – TDC Airline Services Limited and TDC Tours, Credit Manager – Courts St. Kitts and Auditor of the Government of St. Kitts-Nevis. 

In October 2004 Shawn contested his first general elections and defeated the incumbent to become the Member of Parliament for Constituency # 5, Sandy Point. He currently holds the post of Political Leader of the People's Action Movement.

Following the Team Unity victory in the 2015 General Election, Richards was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, Sport and Culture on 22 February 2015

Despite his demanding schedule, Shawn has always made time to contribute to his community especially in terms of education, religion and sports. His contributions include Co-sponsor of the Lloyd Richards Award for the best CXC results in Principles of Business and Accounts at Sandy Point High School, Founder of the Friends of Sandy Point Award for the male and female student from the Sandy Point High School with the best CXC results, Trustee for the Alric Lyndon Lake Memorial Fund, Former President of the Sandy Point Methodist Youth Fellowship, Former Member of St. Kitts Methodist Youth Council, Assistant in the Sandy Point High School Debating Society and he is the Sponsor of the Shawn Richards Basketball Competition during the annual Easter Rama Festival. Additionally, he has sponsored numerous other sporting activities and clubs.
