Joseph Davilmar Théodore
Former President of Haiti
Joseph Davilmar Théodore was President of Haïti from 7 November 1914 to 22 February 1915.
Early life
Joseph Davilmar Théodore was born in the town of Ennery located in the district of Gonaives and the Artibonite department.
Career
He began a military career. He organized the revolt of peasants harvesting cocoa against President Oreste Zamor. The latter was unable to pay its cocoa farmers who had participated in the rebellion and his election.
On November 10, 1914, Joseph Theodore Davilmar, was elected Nov. 7 to the presidency. He took the oath.
On November 12, 1914, the U.S. government provides financial assistance to the Government of Davilmar Theodore, in exchange with customs control, railway, banks.
His inability to pay the farmers as he had promised for participating in the rebellion soon led to his resignation in favor of successor Jean Guillaume Vilbrun Sam.
Death
After his fall, he went first for a while in exile in Curacao. However, it still came under the American protectorate in Haiti, where he died in 1917 in Port-au-Prince.
