Sir Deighton Harcourt Lisle Ward, GCMG, GCVO was a jurist and fFormer Governor- General of Barbados

Early life and education

Governor-General of Barbados. Deighton Ward graduated from Harrison College in Bridgetown.

Career

In 1958, he was one of the candidates of the Barbados Labour Party when they won four of the five seats in the House of Representatives in the Federal Parliament of Barbados. He was a Freemason and President of the Barbados Football Association.

Deighton Ward was the Governor-General of Barbados from 1976 until 1984 when he died in office.

Honours and awards

He was a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order and Knight Grand Cross of the The Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George.

Personal life

Sir Deighton was married to Lady Mary Doreen Ward (d. 1991).

Death

Sir Deighton dies on 9 January 1984. He was buried at the Cathedral Church of St Michael & All Angels, Bridgetown, Saint Michael, Barbados.
