Former President of Haiti
Emmanuel Oreste Zamor served as president of Haiti from February to October 1914.
Career
Oreste Zamor joined the army in 1888. After assignments in the garrisons of Saint-Michel-de-l'Attalaye, Limbe, Gonaïves and Dessalines, he became head of an army of rebellious peasants (Caco) with his brother Charles Zamor.
Twelve days after the resignation of Michel Oreste, January 27, 1914, Oreste Zamor was February 8, 1914 elected to a seven-year term as president of Haiti. His brother Charles Zamor became interior minister of cabinet.
Unfortunately for the brothers Zamor the banks granted them little credit and are not disposed of they money to pay the soldiers. Oreste Zamor was faced with the challenge from his former ally and now rival Davilmar Joseph Theodore and the revolutionary Rosalvo Bobo against his government. He accepted protection from the United States, back in October 1914, accepting a protectorate. But the face of popular revolt, they had to flee.
Death
Charles Zamor fled first to the Embassy of the Dominican Republic, then in that of France, while Orestes Zamor took refuge under the protection of a merchant ship. However, he was taken prisoner by insurgents and nine months later at the National Penitentiary in Port-au-Prince, he was assassinated on orders of President Vilbrun Guillaume Sam.
