National Heroes of Jamaica |
Established on 20 October 1969, National Heroes Day is mandated to be celebrated on the third Monday in October annually. National Heroes day is when Jamaicans are encouraged to remember the vestiges of our seven national heroes- that is remembering their struggles that freed previously enslaved Jamaicans from slavery, also to bring Jamaica into nationhood or enable the recognition of the rights of ordinary citizens. Additionally national honours are bestowed upon Jamaicans who’ve done exemplary work in their communities and in the service of Jamaica. |
