Democratic Party (DP) |
The Democratic Party (DP) is a political party in Sint Eustatius. Founded in 1948, it is the oldest political party residing on the Island of Sint Eustatius.
In 2011, the party obtained two of five seats in the first elections after Sint Eustatius became part of the Netherlands upon the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles in 2011. However, with no party winning a clear majority, a coalition government was formed among the Sint Eustatius Empowerment Party (STEP, The Progressive Labour Party (PLP) and The United People’s Coalition (UPC), with a combined three of five seats.
In 201, Island Council representative Reuben Merkman left the DP and became an independent council member.
The DP won 30.0% of the votes and two of five seats in the 2015 Island Council election. |
