Montserrat is one of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean, lying 27 miles southwest of Antigua and 40 miles northwest of Guadeloupe. The island is eleven miles long and seven miles wide entirely volcanic and very mountainous. The coastline is rugged and offers no all-weather harbour, although there are several anchorages in the lee of the island sheltered from the prevailing trade winds. Montserrat is a full member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and is a member of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

    • Judicial--magistrate's courts, Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (High Court and Court of Appeals), Montserrat is also a member of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).

    • Legislative Assembly (11 seats; 9 members popularly elected to serve five-year terms; the attorney general and financial secretary sit as ex-officio members)

  • Agriculture: cabbages, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, peppers; livestock products.
  • Exports: electronic components, plastic bags, apparel; hot peppers, limes, live plants; cattle
