Electoral System
The five members of the Legislative Council were elected in single-member constituencies by first-past-the-post voting.
Background
The 1952 general election was the first election in Montserrat held under universal suffrage, which had been introduced the previous year.
Political Parties & Candidates
Nine candidates contested the 1952 election; with the Montserrat Labour Party (MLP) running a full slate of candidates and the Merchant Planters (MP) putting forward four. As a result, Michael E. Walkinshaw of the MLP was elected unopposed in the Central constituency.
Results
The result was a victory for the Montserrat Labour Party, which won all five seats in the Legislative Council.
Voter Turnout
Voter turnout was 99.8% of the 3,019 registered voters. |
