The general election for the Legislative Council was held on Thursday, 8 May 1958.
Electoral System
The five members of the Legislative Council were elected in single-member constituencies by first-past-the-post voting.
Political Parties & Candidates
Eleven candidates contested the elections, with the Montserrat Labour Party (MLP) nominating five, the Montserrat Democratic Party (MDP) two; and the remaining four running as independents.
Results
The Montserrat Labour Party (MLP) retained the parliamentary majority in government, winning four of the five seats in the Legislative Council. The remaining seat was won by an independent candidate. |
