The general election for the Legislative Council was held on Tuesday, 25 August 1987.
Electoral System
The seven members of the Legislative Council were elected in single-member constituencies by first-past-the-post voting.
Political Parties & Candidates
Three political parties contested the 1987 election – the People's Liberation Movement (PLM) led by Chief Minister John Osborne; the National Development Party (NDP); and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
Results
The People’s Liberation Movement (PLM) led by John A. Osborne won a third term in office, but with a further reduced parliamentary majority, winning four of the seven seats in the Legislative Council. The National Development Party (NDP) won two seats, while the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) won a single seat.
Voter Turnout
Voter turnout was 71.2% of the 7,461 registered voters.
