General Election Results - 24 April 2003

General elections were held in Turks and Caicos Islands on 24 April 2003, following the dissolution of Parliament on 25 March 2003..

Two parties contested the election – Progressive National Party (PNP) and the People's Democratic Movement (PDM).

Nomination Day was on Monday, 7 April 2003. A total of 26 candidates contested the election. The two major parties each presented a full slate of 13 candidates.

The result was a narrow third-term victory for the Derek Taylor led People's Democratic Movement (PDM), which took seven of the 13 seats on the Legislative Council in comparison to the Progressive National Party's (PNP) six.

Through a Court Order in 2003, two constituencies (South Caicos North and Five Cays Providenciales) were ordered in bi elections.  The PNP won the by elections and became the Government in August 2003.

Voter turnout was 84.40%.

The first meeting of the new Parliament was held on Wednesday, 30 April 2003.
